Childhood Trauma and Child Development
Labelling a child as ‘difficult’ based on their overt behaviour is easy. What demons fester the behaviour is rarely given a thought. Types of trauma in early life are well documented and well known. However, the sinister effect that those traumatic events have on the development of a tender child and the factors that facilitate or hinder trauma healing and optimal development need frequent review. The objectives of this session are: to firstly remind each one of us of the relationship between trauma and child development; and secondly, this reminder will enable us to facilitate healing in the life of any traumatized child we encounter.
